we move forward into the ever-evolving world of beauty, we must take a moment
and reflect on the trends that have graced us so far. While some of these
trends have undoubtedly added a dash of fun and excitement to our everyday
routines, others might have left us with the statement, “What in God’s name is
this now?” Some have stood the test of time, some are fading away and some have
definitely overstayed their welcome.

In
this article, we will delve into such beauty trends that have stayed for way too
long and it’s about time we bid them adieu.
It is about time we embrace a fresh and mindful approach to our personal
care, leaving behind outdated and sometimes harmful practices. We are in the
era of self-love and self-acceptance. It, therefore, is necessary that we
prioritize authenticity and self-care as we go our jolly way.

Here
are four beauty trends that you must say bye-bye to now: 

This
one is the one I don’t understand. We're in 2023, people! This should not be a
topic of discussion anymore. It has been said over and over again, to the
extent we sound like a broken recorder as to the importance of applying
sunscreen. But, as we have so many coconut heads in Nigeria, we are here again.
My dear readers, sunscreen is a very important part of your skincare routine.
It MUST not be neglected or skipped.
Forgetting to apply sunscreen means exposing your skin to the harmful UV rays
of the sun. The effect of such exposure includes sunburn, inflammation,
premature signs of ageing like the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and loss
of skin elasticity and worse of all, skin cancer. Therefore, as of today, apply
your sunscreen, especially on your face, eyelids, fingers, ears, behind your
ears and neck, whether you are staying indoors or going outside. If you do not
have sunscreen, invest in one that is lightweight, does not leave a white cast
and has SPF 15 and above. A perfect example of this type of sunscreen is the <a href="https://www.jumia.com.ng/skin-aqua-uv-super-moisture-gel-spf-50-pa-110g-rohto-mpg1755210.html">Skin

seems to be the latest trend in town. Many top Hollywood celebrities like
Ariana Grande, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga have all
hopped on this trend making it even more popular. However, it being popular and
done by A-list celebrities does not make it the best thing for your eyebrows.
The hairs on our eyebrows are quite delicate and should not be messed around
with and bleaching it is the best way to mess with them. While it may be fun
and give the right alte vibe,
especially for my Gen-Zs, bleaching your eyebrows damages your brow hair and
can lead to permanent brow hair loss. Not what you want right? I mean, you were
only going for the no-eyebrows look and not the actual loss of eyebrows
right?&nbsp; Additionally, bleaching of the
eyebrows can also cause skin irritation, inflammation and breakouts on the skin
around the brows. So, in summary, stay away from bleaching your eyebrows. If
you really, want to achieve the no-eyebrows look then you can use a concealer
and setting powder to achieve it. No need to fry your eyebrows for such a look.

By
now if you know me well, you know I am a big advocate of exfoliating the whole
body. Face included. This is simply because exfoliating your whole body is very
necessary to get rid of dead skin cells but it becomes harmful and detrimental
when you overdo it. Overdoing it means exfoliating more than the recommended
number of times in a week. The recommended number of times by skincare
professionals is 2 to 3 times a week and when you go beyond this you are over-exfoliating.
The effects of over-exfoliating are redness, and inflammation and the one
reason why you exfoliate in the first place is breakouts. Therefore, you must
stick to the recommended times a week to exfoliate. In the instance, you over-exfoliate
and experience redness and inflammation, apply aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free
moisturizer to the affected area to soothing it. &nbsp;

Additionally,
many of you are guilty of over-exfoliating your faces with a body sponge or
loofah. This is very wrong. You are just to wash your face, not strip it of its
protective barrier. This is because the skin on the face is way more delicate
than that on the other part of the body, so it should be handled with care.
Thus, when washing your face, use a gentle facial cleanser and your clean
hands. If you don’t believe that your hands are not enough or adequate enough,
then invest in a facial brush and save your face skin from very unnecessary
harshness. &nbsp;

#4: Impractical and Exaggerated Nail Designs

Unless you are in the earning bracket of the “I don’t
cook, I don’t clean” ladies that Cardi B talked about in her song WAP, you have
no business wearing nails that bring you nothing but discomfort. Gone are the days of super-long, elaborate nail
designs that limit one’s everyday functionality. Sincerely speaking, I wonder
how people that fix this kind of nails go through their everyday life. I mean,
how do they eat properly, especially the consumption of food that requires
eating with their hands and how do they ease themselves? So many questions and
it all shows how impractical and uncomfortable these nail designs can be for
you, my dear ladies. While intricate nail art can be stunning, it is also very
essential to prioritize your nail health. The constant wearing of long acrylic
nails can weaken and damage your nails and lead to various issues like skin
irritation. Aside from the effect on your nails, super long, exaggerated nail
designs are not for elegant ladies like yourself. Instead, opt for chic,
elegant, shorter and more manageable nail designs that are easy to maintain and
express yourself without compromising your comfort or damaging your natural
nails.&nbsp;
