Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the most beautiful of them all? This was me in the past, with all the glows, radiant personality and striking looks; I had a great relationship with my boyfriend, Jide, the envy of many of our friends. We shared an unbreakable bond filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. However, My life took an unexpected turn when I began experiencing severe Pimple breakouts. These weren't just the occasional pimples; they were large, painful cystic pimples that left me feeling self-conscious and distressed. The emotional toll of my pimple was immense, and it started to affect my self-esteem and relationships.

As my pimple worsened, so did my self-esteem. I avoided social gatherings and shied away from public appearances, contrasting my previously outgoing nature. Jide, who had always been supportive, started noticing the change in her behaviour. The once bubbly and confident self became withdrawn and insecure.&nbsp;

My conversations with Jide became strained, and our shared warmth faded. Most of them revolved around the expression of the pimples on my face.

My turning point came one evening when we had planned a romantic dinner to celebrate our one-year anniversary. I started to feel overwhelmed by my appearance and broke down in tears while getting ready. I expressed my pain and fears to Jide, confessing that I felt unattractive and was terrified of losing him because of my skin condition. I asked him, "My love, are you sure you will keep loving me despite these issues?" because it’s fine if we break up. Jide, although empathetic, admitted that he missed the old me, whose skin glowed and who was confident and carefree.&nbsp;

This honest conversation made me realize that while Jide loved me, my nagging about my pimples changed our relationship.

Determined to regain my confidence and save my relationship, I decided to take control of my pimple problem. I knew my skin condition would not disappear overnight, but I could learn to manage it better. After extensive research and consultations with dermatologists, I discovered a skincare routine that worked wonders for me. Here are the five steps that helped me conceal my pimples and regain self-confidence.

The first and most crucial step in my journey was establishing a proper cleansing routine. I learned that using the right cleanser was essential in managing pimples. I opted for a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser specifically formulated for acne-prone skin. This cleanser helps remove dirt, oil, and impurities without irritating the skin or clogging pores.

I made it a habit to cleanse my face twice daily – once in the morning and once before bed. I used lukewarm water to avoid stripping my skin of its natural oils and gently massaged the cleanser onto my face using my fingertips. After thoroughly rinsing off the cleanser, I patted my face dry with a clean towel. This step ensured my skin was clean and free of any residue that could exacerbate the pimple.

The next step in my routine was toning. Toning helps to balance the skin's pH levels and remove any remaining traces of dirt and oil. I chose an alcohol-free toner with soothing ingredients like witch hazel and aloe vera. These ingredients helped to calm my inflamed skin and reduce redness.

Using a cotton pad, I applied the toner to my face, focusing on areas where I experienced the most breakouts. This step prepared my skin for better absorption of the subsequent treatments and products.

During my consultation with my dermatologist, she recommended incorporating a targeted acne treatment into my routine. She opted for a topical treatment containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide helps to kill acne-causing bacteria, while salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and keeps pores clear.

After cleansing and toning, I treated the pimple areas every night. Over time, this step significantly reduced the severity of her pimples and prevented new ones from forming. I also used these treatments sparingly to avoid drying out her skin.

Moisturizing ( The Hydration-Boost)&nbsp;

One common misconception about acne-prone skin is that it doesn't need moisturizing. However, skipping moisturizers can worsen acne. Knowing this, I chose a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that provided adequate hydration without clogging my pores. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide were beneficial, as they hydrated my skin and reduced inflammation.

I applied the moisturizer evenly over my face, ensuring my skin stayed hydrated and balanced. This step was vital in maintaining my skin's health and preventing it from overproducing oil, which could lead to more breakouts.

Despite following a rigorous skincare routine, I knew that my pimples wouldn't disappear overnight. I learned the art of concealing my acne to boost my confidence while my skin healed. Here's how I mastered it:

I started with a primer to create a smooth base for my makeup. I chose a mattifying primer that helped control oil and reduce the appearance of my pores. Applying the primer with my fingertips, I focused on areas with large pores and pimples.

To neutralize the redness of the pimples, I used a green colour corrector. I applied it sparingly, directly on the red spots, with a small brush. This step helped create an even skin tone before applying foundation.

I selected a non-comedogenic, full-coverage foundation that matched my skin tone for my foundation. Using a damp beauty sponge, I applied the foundation in a stippling motion to avoid disturbing the colour corrector. This technique provided a smooth, even coverage without looking cakey.

To conceal the pimples further, I used a high-coverage concealer. I applied it with a small brush, focusing on the areas that needed extra coverage. Blending the edges seamlessly with my beauty sponge ensured that the concealer didn't look obvious.

Finally, I used translucent setting powder to set my makeup and ensure it lasted throughout the day. I applied it with a fluffy brush, concentrating on my T-zone and any areas prone to oiliness. This step helped keep my makeup in place and reduced shine.

As I diligently followed my skincare and makeup routine, I noticed significant improvements in my skin. The pimples gradually diminished, and my complexion became clearer. More importantly, my confidence started to return. I no longer needed to hide from social situations.

My relationship with Jide also improved significantly. He noticed the positive change in my demeanour and was supportive throughout my journey.&nbsp;

This transformation in our relationship was a direct result of my commitment to her self-care routine. I overcame a significant personal challenge by taking control of her skincare routine and learning how to conceal my pimples effectively. But more than that, my journey was a journey of self-love. It helped me regain my confidence and strengthened my relationship with Jide, and we didn't eventually break up.&nbsp;

Pimples can be challenging and distressing but can be managed and overcome with the right approach and a positive mindset. My journey from insecurity to confidence is an inspiring example of how dedication to skincare and learning the art of makeup can transform one's appearance and overall outlook on life.
