I have been dreaming all my life for my big day and now it’s here. Well, knowing how there are many preparations that one has to make regarding the wedding, but the best part is to look your very best. Among other things, a bride has to bloom with radiant, flawless skin. Coming from the Yoruba tribe and just about to hold a wedding, I guess I was under pressure from too much advice talk on skin care. As I share my journey, I emphasize essential steps and tips that led me to set an effective bridal skincare routine to ensure I looked my best on that special day.

Healthy skin doesn't happen overnight. Starting your skincare routine at least six months before your wedding allows your skin to adapt to new products and routines, reducing the risk of adverse reactions.

I started early, say six months before the wedding day, to rub off all the identification of what goes wrong and try and rectify it even in due course. It also allowed me to experiment with different products to determine what worked best on my skin type.

Identifying your skin type—oily, dry, combination, or sensitive—is crucial in choosing the right products and treatments.

I have combination skin, which means an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. This made it easier to select products from the line specifically formulated to balance my skin between breakouts and dryness.

The skin appears full, smooth, and glowing if adequately hydrated. One also should consume plenty of water and use skin moisturizers frequently.

I made it a habit to drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Additionally, I incorporated hydrating serums and moisturizers such as the cerave moisturizing lotion into my routine. This Hyaluronic acid products were particularly effective in keeping my skin moisturized and glowing.

A proper cleanse can remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin, preventing the formation of clogged pores and breakouts. Clean skin allows other topical products to absorb into the skin as efficiently as possible.

As a result, I started with the double-cleansing method: one with an oil-based cleanser to sweep off any makeup or sunscreen on my skin, followed by a light foaming cleanser to eliminate any dirt. Two steps to witness how deep cleansing is done.

Exfoliation removes any accumulated dead skin cells, enabling the turnover of skin cells and allowing a brighter complexion to surface. Over-exfoliation can irritate, so adjust the amount appropriately.

To do this, I used a soft chemical exfoliant containing alpha hydroxy acids on my skin twice each week. It wasn't irritating to my skin and kept it relatively smooth while also helping my tone.

Such treatments can target a particular skin problem, depending on whether it manifests through acne, pigmentation, or fine lines.

I treated some irregular breakouts with salicylic acid. I applied vitamin C serum daily, such as the Cerave Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I loved how it plumped my skin" but also helped with hydration and reducing fine lines to achieve a uniform and clearer complexion.

When used daily, sunscreen will protect your skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, helping it prevent damage due to aging while minimizing the potential risk of skin cancer.

I consistently applied the sunscreen, even in partially cloudy weather. I habitually put on broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen and reapply it every 2 hours when outside. This helped protect my skin and prevent more dark spots and pigmentation.

Professional facials and treatments complement the at-home routine by effectively cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating.

I would go for a facial treatment once every month with a trustworthy beautician. These sessions included deep cleansing, extractions, and hydrating masks. I also tried a few chemical peels to address stubborn pigmentation, significantly improving my skin's clarity and texture.

It shows on your skin if you have a good diet and live a healthy life. Having foods rich in nutrition and keeping stress at bay are the secrets to glowing skin.

For example, I incorporated more fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids. I included foods like berries, green leafy vegetables, and salmon into about anything and everything. I also practiced yoga and meditation to manage pre-wedding stress, positively impacting my skin's appearance.

Proper sleep promotes the restoration and regeneration of the skin, which decreases dark circles and puffiness.

I had at least 8 hours of sleep each night. To improve sleep quality, I also ensured I had engaged in a good bedtime habit, like participating in screen time reduction by an hour or using lavender essential oil. This way, I would wake up with my skin refreshed, energized, and rejuvenated.

Scheduling makeup trials ensures you and your makeup artist are on the same page about your desired look. It also helps identify any potential reactions to makeup products.

I had two makeup trials before my wedding. This allowed me to test different looks and products, ensuring I was happy with the result. It also gave me peace of mind knowing there wouldn't be any last-minute surprises.

The best results are achieved when you follow a consistent skincare regimen. New things and treatments made a week before the wedding could result in unpredictable reactions.

I stuck to that and resisted the temptation to try the new products since the big day was approaching. The consistency in the tried-and-true routine paid off, and my skin stayed stable and healthy.

Creating an effective bridal skincare routine requires time, patience, and dedication. This journey for me as a bride was about trial and error, but eventually, I got it right since I started working on my skin early enough.
