With a monthly online reach of over 5 million people, it's no surprise that Busayo is most commonly described as funny, empathetic, and hardworking. The multifaceted writer and creator has an audience that hangs on to her every word; one of her millions of Instagram fans proudly says, “[Busayo] could tell me to put my hand inside fire and I will do it.” Her steady voice and dynamic personality clearly showcase a writer, mentor, and media influencer of the finest class, yet, this was never the plan.&nbsp;

The original plan? Makeup. The plan after that? Focusing on law school. And yet another plan? Being a poet. That original dream was all the way back in 2015, before ever envisioning herself as a writer of any sort. It would, of course, have been a multimillion-dollar makeup empire, starting from dolling people up in real life and playing with transitions online to becoming the makeup mogul of the decade.&nbsp;

But as university demanded more attention in her life, she had to rethink her game plan. "I thought about it long term—that this is something that is going to take a lot from me. Being a lawyer, being an associate, it’s going to take so much... it requires you to be on deck round the clock. That's the way it is in the legal profession. But writing is something I could do from the comfort of my home; it's something I could do wherever I find myself."

Busayo’s transition from passionate makeup artist and law student to a budding poet came around 2018 when she joined the SprinNG writing cohort for mentorship. She certainly didn't know it at the time, but this was her first real foray into finding a writing voice that was entirely her own—the first stages of the content her audience cherishes today. This period didn't only shape her writing, but it also highlighted a glaring void in the writing and publishing industry:

&nbsp;"Majority of our mentors, they were male writers," she notes of the time. And being a fan of icons like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, she began to realize that if she wanted to see more women in the room, she had to do her part. This pushed Busayo from general storytelling to a deeply intentional voice, style, and message. It wasn't just about sharing her thoughts anymore; it was about "encouraging women to come into my world," whether that would be through relatability, self-reflection, learning to write content, or any of the thousands of questions her community presents.&nbsp;

Today, it has evolved into a style, philosophy, and body of work she playfully calls the "Busayo Element." Whether she is drafting social media content or collaborating with a major brand, her work is anchored in empathy. She doesn’t just write; she performs emotional labor. "I go through my comment section to get an idea of how people want me to sound," she easily explains, "I take on their emotional burden."&nbsp;

This approach turned her social media platforms from something that was just for fun to a powerful sanctuary for her audience and a portfolio that keeps brands asking to work with her. Becoming this version of Busayo, however, didn’t happen in one day. She shares:&nbsp;

“I've had to unlearn the need to feel like I'm not doing enough or the need to feel like my worth is tied to the amount of views, the amount of shares, the amount of likes that I'm able to get on a post, whether my personal post or a brand post.”

“Because way before now, when I first started out as a content writer, I used to tie my value so much to the amount of likes a post could get in under an hour. Then until last year, I had this change in my ideology because I had put in so much work into a particular piece of content and even though the likes were not as much, the comments on that post, they were from people that could deeply relate to the content and they saw the value and we were having full-blown conversations in the comments of that content”

“That was a turning point for me. So these days my posts could perform so badly in terms of the likes or the shares, and I really wouldn't care.”

As Busayo’s presence expands online and in real life, her eyes are now set on a future that is as much about infrastructure as it is about influence:&nbsp;

“A lot of times, we social media content writers get overlooked in the Nigerian digital market. Yes, brands are booking us to work for them, people are booking us to write for them. But in the grand scheme of things, when recognitions are being dished out, when awards are being given, when panels are being set up, when conferences are being set up, content writers are usually left out of the equation. And that is something that I'm thinking of bridging.”&nbsp;

In the meantime, Busayo shares that one of her long-term goals is to be a judge. Before that time comes though, she is occupied with legal expertise for creatives. She shares, “We enlighten creatives on their rights. We enlighten them on what to include in their contract, on the perks to look out for when drafting a contract with a brand,” and more. That seems to be part of the Busayo element; no matter what she doe,s creativity and care will play a core part.&nbsp;

Across her platforms, Busayo is constantly asked what it takes to make it in the writing and creative industry. Her answer?: It certainly takes more than just pure technical skill. To her, being a resonant writer is actually a practice of empathy. " You should never hide behind your potential. And never have the fear of being cringe. " She insists on the art of writing and its various forms.

She also believes that the best work comes from the moments you stop trying to be "professional" and start being human. "Nobody is going to do it for you," she says with the firm clarity of a mentor who has been in the trenches. "Toot your own horn as much as possible. Most of the people you know online as number one writers—it's not every one of them that is the best at what they do. But it's because they talk about it long enough for it to register in people's minds."

Ultimately, Busayo’s journey serves as a manifesto for authenticity in an era of performance, both for budding and established creators. She has learned that the work will always come to you if you are strong enough to stay true to your own voice. Her message is simple: stay authentic, your ideas are not baseless, and don’t be afraid to be the one who talks about your value— until the world has no choice but to listen. "

Remain authentic," she concludes, "because when you’re authentic, nobody can take it away from you."
