hello

we may earn commisions from links on this page, but we only recommend products we love. Promise

As fashion trends rumbled in 2022, with trends flowing in, there was a rise in several party wears and a timeless appeal for luxury. People started going out again, parties loomed everywhere and fashion trends became more emphatic.

Now what can we expect in 2023? Over Tiktok, we see the Gen-Z going back to the 80s, 90s, and the 2000s fashion, with vintage pieces coming back all over again. The spring/summer runways now show more of sheer pieces and sleek timeless tailored looks.

Reign of the Crochets

In 2023, the crochet core will gain more momentum as it was everywhere in 2022.  With mini skirts, beach wears, flare trousers being the highlights of crochet during the 2022 fashion week.

So keep an eye for catchy crochet pieces with more graphic design, distressed styles and more. It doesn't end with the basics alone, as we see bags, mufflers, even phone cases having crochet covers.

Sheer culture

Sheers were big in 2022, and we'll be seeing more of it being incorporated into detailed delicate feminine pieces like tulle sleeves, mesh skirts.

You don't have to break a bank to style these pieces. You can pair a tulle dress with combat boots or a mesh top with your favourite straight-leg jeans to give a chill look.

Yet more nostalgia

The obsession with our past won't be leaving us anytime soon. In the words of Moizant, "the 90s and 2000s nostalgia will remain". If you're planning to retire on the y2k pieces from last year, just know that there are plenty of trends yet to make their comeback and 2023 is the year.

Maybe you're a fan of low-rise jeans or love the look on others, or embellished jackets with metallic details, be sure to get one that'll suit you more.

Denim 2.0

Reimagined denim pieces have been gearing towards loose, more relaxed fits. Be sure to see more of the baggy trends from last year.

Say goodbye to skinny jeans as you won't be needing more of them for a while. Prepare to see more recycled denim pieces turned into creative styles.

From denim corsets to reconstructed jackets, this trend is no coincidence.

Wednesday vibes

We're here for the grunge of it all. The punk and goth dressing like those seen in Wednesday Addams will make its way in the fashion world of 2023.

Be on the lookout for leather pieces, chunky jewellery and combat boots. Even if the alt-look is not your style, you can incorporate more tougher fits in your wardrobe.

Embrace the maxis

This doesn't mean that the micro-mini would go away, but runway shows from the likes of Tony Burch show a comeback of maxi fits.

Expect a bit more maximalist styles with references from the y2k and 90s vibe.

2023 is going to be all about expressing your individualism and getting into more of everything, even if it feels a bit too much, but yeah that's the fun of fashion.

The Boss Chick

After the pandemic, comfort and functionality have been prioritized and there's a demand to return to tailoring and suiting to match individual tastes.

We all love a power blazer moment. In 2023, we expect blazers to get bigger and better. From pairing it with the classic denim jeans to tailored trousers, this will be a head-turning look.

Ditch the nighties

Now we know that sleepwear is no longer just for sleeping. Designers have taken inspiration from women's nighties and made transforming ready-to-wear collections.

Lingeries, lace-hemmed skirts and dresses making their way into the collection, it's no doubt that 2023 is the year to ditch the nighties.

Neon looks

With shades brighter than the sun being in and out of season, it's time for a comeback.

While there may be few pieces in the garment industry, expect more neon eyewear, footwears and jewelries amidst others.

The key to pulling off this look is basically matching your accessories for a holistic feel.

Cut-out looks

These daring, fashion-forward pieces are sure to make its way into 2023, though not for the faint heart.

They are a great way to experiment with its main feature being "skin". You can rock this at any time as their versatility gives off a cause for experimenting. Pair the pants with the classic tees, a blazer or a crop top giving off edgy vibes.
