The event, which took place at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, was themed "The Garden of Time," a concept that inspired a dazzling array of sartorial masterpieces, according to Vogue.

The night's sartorial theme got its name from a J.G. Ballard story about a count who, to stave off an angry mob nearing his castle, cuts a rose from his garden to slow down time until no flowers remain. In tandem with the exhibit's emphasis on old and new, the story's dystopian undertones saw a red carpet filled with everything from florals to techno-inspired fashion and even a Sleeping Beauty reference.

As the world's most renowned celebrities graced the red carpet, they showcased their interpretations of the theme, blending fashion and art in a mesmerizing display. From the ethereal gowns that evoked the timeless beauty of nature to the avant-garde ensembles that challenged traditional notions of style, the 2024 Met Gala was a testament to the boundless imagination of the fashion industry. This year's exhibit, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," examines how technology can breathe new life into garments that are too old and fragile to be worn again.&nbsp;

Zendaya, the first to walk the red carpet, arrived in a custom Margiela gown made by the designer John Galliano. The piece clearly references the designer's Spring 1999 couture collection for Dior. With her makeup done by Pat McGrath and a headpiece by Philip Treacy, the star delivered a look the internet declared it had "no notes" for.

&nbsp;The next look is Gigi Hadid’s Thom Brown gown, which felt like the freshest possible way to tackle the garden theme. The look was embroidered with over 2.8 million beads and took 5,000 hours to make, with over 70 people working on it.

Another breathtaking piece was that of Kendall Jenner, which is believed to have had the most insane archival pull we have ever seen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She walked the red carpet in a vintage beaded Givenchy Haute Couture dress made by Alexander McQueen in 1999. The dress was shown only on mannequins before going back to the designer’s archive. No one wore it until today when Jenner put it on.

Kim Kardashian wore a custom Maison Margiela gown, with a metal bodice and a silver floral overlay. She wore a gray, pilling cardigan over her shoulders.

"Immaculate" star Sydney Sweeney changed her signature blonde locks for a choppy black bob. She wore a contrasting light blue tulle dress by Miu Miu, embellished with dozens of flower buds and paired with leathery black gloves. She indeed embodied the Theme for this year's Met Gala.

British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton slayed as he wore an oversized black coat from Burberry. The outfit was an homage to an unnamed slave who became the first Black gardener in Wales in the 18th century.

Janelle Monae looked stunning in a Vera Wang dress that looked to be an homage to the crystalline time-manipulating flowers in J.G. Ballard's "The Garden of Time."

Singer Camilla Cabello also leaned into the theme of decaying glamour with a strategically shredded chain-mail mermaid dress paired with a "purse" reminiscent of a block of ice with a bronze-hued rose seemingly frozen within.&nbsp;

Kylie Jenner stunned the audience as she wore a statue-inspired satin dress from Oscar de la Renta with a dramatic bustle and conical-bustier.

Lil Nas X sparkled on the carpet in a look by Luar. the artist opted for a more subtle—yet still impactful—look by <a href="https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/designer/luar">Raul Lopez of Luar</a>.“This garment is embellished with 50,000 Swarovski crystals that when touched evoke a sensory connection to the past,” Lopez tells <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/lil-nas-x-was-doused-in-50000-swarovski-crystals-at-the-2024-met-gala">Vogue</a>. “The crystal-studded tank top, the petal-like sash, and the intricate network of perfectly pieced-together panels are fragments of a larger whole, held together.

Jennifer Lopez dazzled as she wore a custom made Schiaparelli gown featuring over 2,500,000 silver foil bugles and beads which took 800 hours to hand-embroider.

The"Wicked" Movie co-stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande walked the red carpet together, Revealing Ervo in a pink petal-strewn black Thom Browne ensemble while Ariana contrasted in a white Loewe dress, the top of which was made of mother of pearl and a pleated silk chiffon bottom hand-painted to mimic the surface of an iridescent shell.

Elle Fanning in an ethereal Balmain number. The organza bustier gown is hand-covered with four layers of resin for a trompe-l'oeil glass effect and features an illusion of fabric lifted by two birds sculpted in gray-blue resin.

Demi Moore looked like the Queen of Hearts in a dramatic number by designer Harris Reed. The gown took 11,000 hours of silk embroidery and was made with vintage wallpaper.
