With the continuous growth of the LGBTQ+ community, different identities are being discovered and explored by various members of society; more individuals are opening up and explaining their sexual orientation. Sincerely, keeping up with these identities might be a bit difficult or confusing but we are here to keep you up to date, now let’s dive right in.

As we all know, LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and the + sign covers pretty much every other sexual orientation and gender identity. Now gynesexual simply means the attraction to femininity or female anatomy regardless of gender identity. Simply put, it means being attracted to someone who appears feminine irrespective of that person’s gender (the person of attraction could be a transgender, non-binary, or even a cishet male who presents himself in a feminine way). It’s a bit confusing but stay with me, every heterosexual male, every lesbian, can be considered gynesexual but this particular label is particularly meant for individuals who are attracted to femininity in genderqueer or nonbinary persons. Therefore, it doesn’t put you in the box of being attracted to just women but the attraction goes as wide as anyone who is femme.

So unlike heterosexuality or homosexuality where gender plays a big role factor, gynesexuality does not consider gender as a major role. It allows an attraction to individuals with feminine outward presentation, that is individuals who dress and present themselves in a femme way (they could be drag queens, transgenders, nonbinary)

Traditionally, femininity is used to describe the attributes or qualities of a woman but the idea of femininity varies from person to person. Therefore, a gynesexual being attracted to femininity might be an attraction to feminine mode of dressing or appearance, for example; dresses, skirts, blouses, and long hair, it could also be the female body/genitals; breasts, clitoris, vulva, slim waists and nice curves but in this case the person mustn’t identify as female, it could as well be the attributes of a woman; soft voice, nurturing embrace, gestures, warm aura, mannersim etc. With gynesexuality, the attraction differs from person to person because of their definition of femininity.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Richard had always believed he was heterosexual (meaning attraction to the opposite sex), he loved everything womanly, not just the boobs or the curve of a woman, it goes as deep as the submission, the aura, the gesture, the mannerism and the nurturing spirit that comes with being a woman. From his explanation, something was welcoming about femininity, something accepting that called to him so he just assumed and concluded that he was a straight man after all he was attracted to feminine attributes.

But what Richard failed to understand was that our world has fully evolved when it comes to sexual orientation and gender identities so being attracted to strictly femininity does not make you straight because anyone can be feminine irrespective of their gender.

Richard met Gift on one of his business trips in Chicago, she had been on a solo date at the hotel’s bar where he was lodged. He had come down from his room for a drink when he noticed her seated by the corner, she was dressed in a yellow flowy dress that complimented her dark skin, her hair which was well braided was let down, and her smile and mannerisms whilst talking to the waitress felt warm and inviting, immediately his attraction towards her spiked. As the brave man he was, he made his way towards her for a conversation. To his surprise, they hit it up immediately; she was funny, smart, sophisticated, soft, warm, alluring, and best of all a good listener. It didn’t take long before the conversation began to take a sexual turn and damn this woman was also flirtatious and seductive, she was so easy to talk to, she flowed through every conversation be it politics, business, societal norms and now sexually she was a bomb, he definitely couldn’t wait to take her to his room. But not wanting to come off as a pervert, he waited.

Drinks after drinks, conversations flowing, laughter filling up the room, sexual tension that clearly couldn’t be denied, it was time to call it a night but to his astonishment, she asked him to invite her to his room and he happily obliged. The elevator was the first to observe their steamy make-out session, they clearly could not wait to explore each other, the kiss was so intense that he lifted her and she was so in sync that she wrapped her legs around his waist, the kissing continued until the elevator doors came open. They hurriedly ran towards his room, the door had barely locked when she began unbuttoning his shirt, she was halfway done when she stopped, her mood had changed and he asked her what was wrong. He silently hoped it wasn’t one of those what are we or what next conversations because the erection he had right now might kill him.

But the conversation was not in any way what he had expected, she softly came out to him as being a transwoman and it was quite clear that he was attracted to women, she didn’t know how to tell him during their date at the bar because she was attracted to him and didn’t want to scare him immediately. He listened to her deeply hoping to feel a sense of anger or betrayal but to his surprise and confusion he still had a hard-on, he didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the initial tension they both shared but he was still interested as a matter of fact, her vulnerability and softness made him more interested. He softly kissed her, slowly took her hands to his shirt implying that she continued what she had started, and he cautiously helped her with her dress. They fell into each other’s embrace and warmth, their hands and mouth exploring their bodies, Richard unconsciously agreed with himself that this was the best sex he had experienced.

After that night, Richard began to question himself and his sexuality, he wondered if he had automatically become bisexual but he knew he wasn’t attracted to men. He began to make a series of researches before concluding that he was gynesexual, and had been attracted to the feminine aura that Gift exhumed.

Just like how the different communities in LGBTQ+ have a flag, the gynesexual community also has one with the colors pink, brown, and green. The pink which is taken from the trans flag stands for the attraction to women, and that trans women are indeed real women, the brown symbolizes support and stability and finally the green which was adopted from the genderqueer flag, symbolizes attraction to femininity, particularly for genderqueer/nonbinary individuals.

In conclusion, the reminder from the LGBTQ+ community is that labeling your sexuality should be up to you and no one else, you decide for yourself who you are.

The prefix gyne means "woman" or "female" and just as the name implies gynesexuality is the attraction to femininity but this isn't the regular heterosexual or lesbian relationship, this form of sexuality does not limit you to just the female gender.
