That’s what I tell myself as I type “sure”, even though my body reacts faster than my pride can intervene.

Because the minute I see the text, my stomach twists. I feel that stupid, familiar giddiness creep in. My body reacts before my brain can step in and do damage control. I start remembering the last time he was here. The way it felt. The way he felt. There’s a bright, reckless spark in my chest that has absolutely no business being there.

I tell myself this is harmless. That adults can hang out. That this doesn’t mean anything.But my body is already proving me wrong.

We’ll just watch a movie.We’ll talk.We’ll chill.

But even as I think it, I know I’m lying. Because I know why he’s coming and he knows what he’s coming for.

When he walks in, my resolve starts slipping

We sit too close. Our knees touch. Not accidentally.The room feels smaller. Warmer. Charged.

He smells the same. That shouldn’t matter, but it does.My body leans in before I decide to. My breath changes. My thoughts slow down, like they’re stepping aside to let instinct take over.

This is the dangerous part, the space where memory and desire collide.

I know exactly when it becomes inevitable

It’s the pause before it.That second where we both know we should stop… and don’t.

There’s nothing tender about it, but nothing empty either. It’s familiar. Easy. Like muscle memory. My body responding to something it has learned too well.

For a moment, I forget why I left.For a moment, I stop needing answers.In that moment, I just want to melt into him and explore the cravings that got us both here in the first place.

When it’s done, there’s no rush to leave. No rush to stay.

I stare at the ceiling and feel that familiar mix settle in: satisfaction tangled with shame, comfort braided with disappointment. My body feels calm. My heart feels foolish.

He still doesn’t love me the way I needed.I still wanted more than he ever gave, and here I am, again, pretending this didn’t mean something.

I didn’t come back because I forgot why I left.I came back because my body remembers him in ways my heart is still trying to unlearn.

Desire doesn’t disappear on command.Closure doesn’t erase chemistry.And sometimes, your body is loyal to a version of someone that no longer exists.

I’m done with him.But my body hasn’t caught up yet.

And tonight, as he gets dressed and I pretend I’m fine, I can’t help but wonder:
