"Every day I wished I didn't wake up," Tina said. My husband and I dated for about 5 years before we got married and we are blessed with 2 beautiful children. We had a cleaning agency - a company that we worked so hard to build — for almost 10 years. I spent all my savings willingly and did all the sourcing of customers because I believed we were going to live together forever - I was going through all this for my future, for my husband, and for my kids. But I was wrong, I thought I knew him, we were friends and then we dated before marriage, wasn't it enough to know all about him? - tears rolled through her eyes.&nbsp;"Little did I know I was up for some big surprises," Tina said as she wiped her tears.

I got sick and the company's profit started depreciating, I wasn't checking it because of my illness. When I recovered a little, I was asking questions and he was irritated and that got me worried. Guess what? I found out that my husband has a son before we got married and not just that, he registered our company with the name of his son. He has been secretly meeting his first family and he had the so-called agreement to give them something they will leave as a form of compensation. When I confronted him, he said we can build another business. With less remorse in his eyes, my heart broke. 

Finance was no longer coming as it should, so I decided to go back to my mum to receive full treatment with a broken heart. During that period, I wish I had died, I was so empty - I fell into depression. but here I am, living and breathing. I survived my depression and it is all thanks to my mum. She took both myself and my daughters in, I got the treatment I needed, and now my mum and I own a big supermarket and we are doing very much okay. I think my husband relocated to another state because the business has crashed and I haven't heard from him in a long while.

<b>How can you survive depression - suicide?</b>

It all starts from thoughts then to feelings, and before you know what happens, you are already acting on them. Few things to do that will help you get back yourself and flee from being depressed.

Be willing to share your thoughts whenever you are stressed and angered. Don't keep things to yourself all the time. It is the first step of going into depression. "It was accumulated stress and anger that built the negativity I had experienced first, before getting broken by my husband," Tina said in our conversation. We all need to direct our thoughts positively daily so that when there is bad news or a bad event, we can be mentally stable to handle them.

A wellness toolbox is a set of tools and activities that you can use to help soothe yourself when you are feeling down. It differs for different people. Examples are, going out with friends, watching movies, listening to music, cuddling a pet, going for a walk, reading a book, writing your thoughts down in a diary, or any other thing you like doing most.

Depression doesn't just make you feel bad, it can also cause you to think more negatively all the time. It seizes every form of happiness you should have, and makes you always angry, irritated, and unsatisfied with things and people around you. Changing those negative thoughts will improve your mood, help feel better, and stay happy — when you know what wellness tool suits you best, you should be able to stay out of negative thoughts.

But this is not so. The pain affects every single aspect of your life. 

I have never had an examination without my period; I have never traveled without my period. There are so many things I have never done without my period. When I’m very happy, my period comes, when I’m depressed, my period is there. I learned just to cope with it. I love the quote that women wear their pain like stilettos. That’s what I have been doing. “Until I turned 40, Nigerians didn’t know I suffered from endometriosis." I don't take alcohol - you cannot be on medication and take alcohol. It was finally understood why I was so clean-cut and into healthy living.

The first time I experienced the pain of endo­metriosis was very traumatic. I thought I was going to die. I have lost count of the number of surgeries that I have had but I know that it’s more than 17 times.” The amazing thing is that she survived and didn't allow depression to lead her into taking her life. You would probably imagine what kind of life she had, growing up with constant pain. And there are other celebrities too who survived, went through it, and came out of it. They didn't act on the suicidal feeling they were having at that point in their life.

Depression comes in different situations. It could be work-related, health, or in marriage. To enable you to avoid thinking that suicide is not an option, please don't keep things to yourself - learn to share your thoughts with people - loved ones, friends, or mentors, and when you are feeling down, try one or two wellness tools and always ensure to stay happy, no negative thoughts. 

This is a story of how a women, and a mother of kids survived depression and rebuilt her life from scratch.
