Quick question: What have you actually done this year? No, seriously. Let's talk about this. Because it's the last day of September. Q3 is officially over, and I already know what's happening. You're looking at the calendar, looking at the goals you wrote down in January, looking at other people's achievements online and suddenly thinking, “Wow. I haven't achieved anything this year.”

Really? You haven't? You mean nothing happened between January and September? You just sat there and waited for December?

I don't think so. I think you've just decided that the things you've done don't count, and that's a different conversation.

So before you start writing off 2026, let's actually check.

Not necessarily millions. Relax. Did you get paid for your work? Get a new job? Get a raise? Make money from a side hustle? Freelance? Get your first client? Sell something? Make money from something you created?

Maybe you didn't make as much as you wanted, or your salary disappeared five minutes after it entered your account, but if you made your own money this year, you made your own money this year. That counts and that is an achievement.

02. Did you pay for something your younger self couldn't have afforded?

Think about it: Rent, A phone, A laptop, A flight, Your parents' bills, Furniture, School fees, even pizza. That ridiculously expensive thing you really did not need but wanted very badly.

You were someone's child once, asking for money to buy things. Now you're the one paying for things. Please. That's something.

Let's say you got a new job, you changed jobs, you got promoted, you took on more responsibility, or you learnt how to do something you couldn't do in January, or you're simply much better at the job you already had.

Even if your biggest career achievement this year was not losing your mind at work, we'll allow it. Your career doesn't only move when your job title changes. Sometimes you just get better at what you do.

A degree, a course, a certification, a project, a business registration, a portfolio, a book. That thing you started in February and somehow actually completed.

You know that thing you've been saying you'd do “soon” for the last two years? Did you finally do it? Because if you did, please stop saying you did nothing.

05. Did you go somewhere you'd never been before?

Another country. Another state. A random weekend trip. A concert in another city. That wedding you almost didn't attend. It doesn't have to be Santorini.

Did you experience somewhere you've never experienced before? Then something happened this year that had never happened to you before. That's literally something.

A business, a relationship, a hobby, a savings plan, a fitness routine, a new course, a content page, a side hustle.

Even if you started it and abandoned it two months later, you still started it. And no, we're not going to pretend everything you start has to become a seven-figure company before it counts.

Sometimes you try something and discover you don't even like it. Useful information.

Did you move out? Leave a job? End a relationship? Start dating again? Move cities? Turn down an opportunity? Accept one? Decide to stay? Decide to leave?

Some decisions don't look impressive on Instagram. They can still completely change your life.

08. Did you finally do something you've been postponing for years?

Get your passport. Learn to drive. Get your licence. See a doctor. Fix your finances. Apply for that visa. Have the difficult conversation. Open the account. Sort out your documents. Finally get your own place.

Adult life is basically an endless list of things you keep saying, “I'll do it next month.” If you finally did one of yours this year, you did something.

09. Did something go badly and you still recover?

If you lost money, got rejected, took the wrong job, trusted the wrong person, had a terrible month, started over, made a decision you wish you could undo, we're not going to put a motivational quote over it and call it a blessing. Sometimes things just go badly.

But if something went badly and you managed to pick yourself up and keep going, that is a great achievement, my friend.

10. Did you experience something for the first time?

Your first solo trip. Your first proper salary. Your first international flight. Your first time managing people. Your first big purchase with your own money. Your first time living alone. Your first time doing something that genuinely scared you.

You cannot have a first without having a year that contained something new.

Did you send money home? Recommend someone for a job? Connect somebody to an opportunity? Help a friend through something? Pay somebody's bill? Teach someone something? Show up when someone needed you?

Nobody is giving you a certificate for this. Nobody is putting it on LinkedIn. It still happened, and it's still something

12. What did January-you want that September-you actually has?

This one requires you to actually think. Go back to January. What did you want? A new job? More money? A relationship? A trip? Your own apartment? A new skill? A degree? A business? Better finances?

Did you get any of it? Even one? Then why are you sitting here telling people you achieved nothing?

We're not saying you had the perfect year. Maybe you didn't get the promotion, or the business didn't work. You might not have made the money you planned to make, you probably didn't travel, or get married. Japa didn't work, or you didn't tick off half the things you wrote down in January.

Fine. But if you could relate to even three things on this list, you achieved something this year. Not everything. Not enough to make you feel like you've “made it.” But something. That's the part you've been missing. You've been looking at the things you didn't do and using them to cancel out everything you actually did.

So before you write off 2026 as the year you “did nothing,” go back through the list. If three things sound like you, please give yourself some credit.

Q3 is done. You have three months left. No need to panic. No need to suddenly turn October into a productivity competition. Just take stock, figure out what still matters to you, and keep going.
