Global music streaming giant Spotify has announced that Nigerian music stars Ayra Starr and Tems have emerged as the most streamed Nigerian artists worldwide.

This exciting news was shared by Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, during an event in Lagos on Wednesday. Okumu revealed that the top 30 Nigerian artists who have achieved significant global streaming numbers were listed in Spotify’s 2024 Global Music Impact Report.

Leading the chart is "Santa," a collaboration between Rauw Alejandro and Ayra Starr. Ayra Starr's "Comma" took the second spot, while Tems' "Love Me Jeje" secured third place. Following closely were Luciano and Omah Lay’s "Another Vibe" in fourth, and the collaboration of 21 Savage, Burna Boy, and Metro Boomin’s "Just Like Me" in fifth. Tyla and Tems' track "No.1" claimed the sixth position.

Phiona Okumu highlighted the significance of Nigerian music on the global stage, particularly the widespread appeal of Afrobeats. She stated, “Spotify has unveiled its Global Impact List in Nigeria, recognizing the top 30 tracks from Nigeria with the biggest global impact on Spotify over the first half of 2024. The list acknowledges Nigerian tracks that have had the most listens from outside Nigeria in the first half of 2024, released between January 1 and June 30.”

Other notable mentions include "Ruin" by Usher and Pheelz in seventh place, "Pretty Girl" by Reis B and Tempoe in eighth, and "Tshwala Bam" by TitoM, Yuppe, Burna Boy, and S.N.E. in ninth. Ayra Starr and Giveon’s "Last Heartbreak Song" took the tenth spot, followed by Victony’s "Everything" at 11th, Aya Nakamura and Ayra Starr’s "Hype" at 12th, and Tems and J.Cole’s "Free Fall" at 13th.

Okumu emphasized the remarkable ability of Nigerian music to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries, captivating global audiences with its infectious rhythms, compelling storytelling, and innovative sound fusions. She added, “At Spotify, we are thrilled to witness and support the continued evolution of this vibrant scene.”

Female artists, especially Ayra Starr and Tems, have been leading the charge with top-ranking hits following their recent album releases. The list also highlights the prevalence of international collaborations, with eight of the top ten tracks featuring partnerships with global superstars. These collaborations, such as Pheelz with Usher and Burna Boy with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, showcase the cross-cultural appeal and growing global impact of Nigerian music.
