Big Brother Naija's organizers have announced that the ninth season of the reality TV show will begin in July 2024. The news was shared on their official X account on Sunday, June 30, 2024, along with a teaser photo hinting at the new season's theme.

This announcement comes amidst controversy over unfulfilled promises from the sponsors of the season seven winner, Phyna. Phyna has publicly accused the BBNaija organizers and sponsors of failing to deliver all the prizes and money promised to her. Her claims surfaced shortly after Multichoice announced auditions for the upcoming season.

The Practitioners of Content Creating, Skit-Making, and Influencers Guild of Nigeria (PCCSIGN) also highlighted the list of gifts allegedly owed to Phyna, urging Multichoice to facilitate the release of the prizes. Phyna has expressed her frustration on social media, particularly over the unfulfilled promise of 1 BTC from sponsor Quidax Global, which she says is now worth over N90 million.

Despite a recent offer of N13 million from the sponsors, Phyna has rejected it, insisting on receiving the promised 1 BTC and a trip-for-two to the Maldives. She remains determined to secure her due prizes, which she emphasizes are significantly more valuable now than when initially pledged.
