Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele is encouraging women to become more independent and entrepreneurial. In a recent interview with Arise TV, Akindele stressed the importance of women pursuing their own business ventures, no matter their situation.

She urged women not to rely on men for their success, highlighting that women have the potential to achieve financial independence on their own. “Who says women can’t make money?” she questioned, citing successful female entrepreneurs like Folorunsho Alakija as examples. “You don’t have to rely on a man to make it.”

Akindele advised young women to remain content and focused on their goals rather than feeling envious of others and living beyond their means. She encouraged them to start small, even with a modest business, and to take the initiative. “Whatever you have, just start something. Move. Don’t wait for the big opportunity. Even if it’s petty business, just start something,” she said.

Reflecting on her own journey, Akindele shared that she used to buy second-hand handbags, which she would clean and make look good. Despite their low cost, she still felt confident and stylish. “I used to buy my handbags from ‘bend down select.’ I would wash and iron them and slay with them. Even with the cheap bags, I still felt good. Just believe in yourself,” she said.

Akindele also emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with positive influences and avoiding negativity. “Content that would drive you crazy, people that would say things that would upset you, toxic peopleâ€”avoid them. Because you’re growing in a new space. It’s what you feed yourself with that matters,” she advised.

Through her words, Akindele hopes to inspire women to take control of their own destinies and build their own paths to success.
