Farooq Oreagba, Managing Director of NG Clearing and former member of the Derivatives Product Advisory Committee of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, recently shared how his battle with cancer has reshaped his life. Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Oreagba, who made a striking impression at the 2024 Ojude Oba festival, opened up about how being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable form of cancer, changed his outlook and priorities.

Oreagba’s life took a dramatic turn in February 2014 when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Reflecting on this period, he said, “I’ve always been a bit of a controversial person, but we won’t get into that. When I was diagnosed with cancer, my priorities changed. It might sound strange, but if I could live another 20 years, I would say that being diagnosed with cancer is the best thing that ever happened to me. It gave me a new perspective on life and what I’m here to do.”

Passionate about offering hope to other cancer patients, Oreagba dedicates his time to counseling and advocating for better healthcare. He even runs marathons to raise funds for cancer charities. “I got hope from unexpected places, and sometimes from those I expected, I got nothing. That’s life, and you learn from it,” he remarked.

Despite his health challenges, Oreagba has found a sense of fulfillment and happiness. He emphasized, “You don’t know how much time you have, so you must prioritize. For me, family comes first. I’ve been living with cancer for ten years now, and since being crowned ‘king of steeze,’ I’m not going anywhere soon. Each day is a blessing.”

Oreagba also shared insights into how his diagnosis affected his social circle. “When I was a senior executive at the exchange, I had millions of friends. After leaving the exchange and being diagnosed with cancer, those numbers dwindled significantly. It taught me the importance of keeping genuine friends close and being true to myself,” he explained.

Discussing his tattoos, Oreagba highlighted their personal significance. “I’ve had my tattoos for years, and they mean a lot to me. They remind me to live each day as if it were my last. Only God can judge me,” he said, revealing one of his tattoos that reads, “I live each day as if it were my last. So don’t judge me.”

The Ojude Oba festival holds a special place in Oreagba’s heart as a family tradition that showcases their heritage and identity. “Ojude Oba is more than just a festival; it’s a celebration of our culture and who we are,” he expressed.
